In accordance with subsection 139A of the Indian Income Tax Act of 1961, it is a one-of-a-kind ten-digit alphanumeric number that was issued by the Income Tax Department of India.

Full Form of PAN is:  Permanent Account Number

Taxpayers all around the country are required to have a physical identity card known as a PAN in order to file their returns.

Because it contains the customer’s name, date of birth, photos, and other identifying information, a PAN card can be used as evidence of the customer’s identification.

PAN is used largely as a database for all individual transactions, including credits for taxes collected at source (TCS) and taxes deducted at source (TDS), payments related to income tax, returns on gifts, investments, and wealth, and so on.

Because the PAN number is used to track each transaction, the Income Tax department is able to detect any tax-related business conducted by either individuals or businesses.
