What is Friction ?

Friction is defined as the force against the motion of a solid object. Sliding friction and static friction are a type of friction.

Sliding friction is the resistance that is created between two objects when they slide against each other and can be thought of as the opposite of sliding friction.

 

The term “static friction” refers to the force that is exerted between two surfaces when those surfaces are allowed to rest against one another.

The Reasons Why Sliding Friction Is Lower Than Static Friction

Why Sliding Friction is Less Than Static Friction.

Because of the friction that exists between the two surfaces, the irregularities that are found on both surfaces are connected to one another.

During sliding, there is not enough time for the contact points to properly interlock with one another. Because of this, there is very little friction.

However, when the material is not moving, the surfaces form strong bonds with one another, which results in increased friction. This provides an explanation for why the sliding friction is significantly lower than the static friction.

Sliding friction is slightly less than static friction due to the fact that it is simpler to move an object that is already moving than it is to move an object that is still.
